Six
Inches of Travel by
Josie Melia
The TAB team
worked from January through May 2000 in three schools in the Brighton
area. The first school, Falmer High School, crafted an entertaining
mix of dance, live music, and drama to explore the theme of sibling rivalry.
The second
school, East Brighton College of Media Arts (Marina High),
devised a more abstract, physical, piece of theatre. Patcham High
school put together a multi-media drama centered around a key moment
in the script. They shot their own video footage, and devised their own
script which they presented as a polished, fully integrated, mini play.
Finally,
a full production of Six Inches of Travel was performed by students from
Varndean Sixth Form College. Josie Melia, the writer,
attended early workshops with the cast and then developed a final draft
of the script tailoring the characters to suit the individual skills of
the actors.
