About
Us
Theatre and Beyond began in 1998 and created the first platform for regional
playwrights to showcase their work as part of the main Brighton Festival
programme in a four-day new writing event. The company’s reputation
grew as a development organisation for playwrights and this led to TAB
being awarded Recurrently Funded Status by Arts Council England South
East.
TAB’s reputation has been enhanced by our ongoing relationship with
Chichester Festival Theatre (CFT). This started in 2004 and led to Theatre
and Beyond (TAB) becoming the joint winner with Chichester Festival Theatre
of the Peggy Ramsay Award for New Writing in 2005.
Our profile in the region is based on well-received touring productions
and projects:
Tab Lab 2001- New Writing and digital technologies workshops
and short plays.
So Not Like That 2002 – A verbatim play performed
by young people in East Brighton Education Action Zone.
Mrs Meszaros 2002 – Premier of new play linked
to Holocaust Memorial Day and Anne Frank Exhibition.
What Now? 2003 – Six short plays commissioned as
a response to the Iraq War, and presented as lunchtime theatre at Komedia.
What Became of The Witch ? 2003 – A play for young
people about longevity.
Lost & Found 2005 – A collaborative writing
project with a professional writer and young people in care.
Fires In The Fields 2005 – A new play to commemorate
the 400th Anniversary of Bonfire Night.
