What Became of the Witch?

From the outset we were trying to engage young (14-18 yr olds) audiences. We never wanted to 'dumb down' the play to do this. To our relief and surprise the young audiences seemed to love the play. They laughed, clapped and seemed to be genuinely involved.
In the workshops that followed the students considered deeply their future as older people.

1) What did they think about getting old?
2) Would they participate in plastic surgery/breast enlargement/injection of botox in order to stave off old age?

3) Did they see a future when they get old?
4) Would they like to live forever if there was a miracle cure for age?

For many, old age was something that happened to other people. By engaging in the subject matter for the very first time and discussing these questions, it became clear that they too were not immune. Therefore, whatever thoughts, reflections and conclusions that they had now would inevitably impact on their future. Most seemed to express a new perspective about what growing old meant to them.
