Background
TAB
LAB is Theatre and Beyond's Laboratory
of writers' workshops. First premiered at 2001 International Brighton
Festival, we ran 10 one day workshops in Autumn 2000 throughout the South
East and shortlisted six writers to present at the festival the following
Spring.
In 2002, we refined the process further to deliver a series of 3 six-day workshops spread over a period of three months in Hastings (St Mary in the Castle) , Walton-on-Thames (Riverhouse) and Maidstone (Hazlitt).
This allowed the participating writers to develop an idea from initial
pitch through to a performed reading in collaboration with
our creative team of actors, directors, sound designer and video
artist. The pick of the plays were re-rehearsed and presented as a "Best
of the best" at Komedia in Brighton, along with the grand
final of the Playwright's Slam.
